America Score St. Louis Poetry Slam

The America Scores St.Louis, Poetry Slam is the children spoken word event that recognizes and rewards the performance of original individual and group student poems. In this 16 week program 8-11 year olds are exposed to poetry forms, journalizing and activities geared to instill a joy of creative writing.   Every November trophies are awarded to the top three Poetry Slam performers; however every participant receives recognition for their efforts creating and rehearsing for this celebration of writing. Nine St.Louis public schools have participate in creative writing, soccer, service learning and nutritional education programs of this nation wide youth development organization.   In April two poets groomed at the local America SCORES St.Louis poetry slam are selected to read their poems at the National America SCORES Poetry Slam in New York City.  This was a great experience.
